Health And Safety On Construction And Building Sites
Â
Falls in the workplace account for a very large percentage of injuries and deaths recorded in the construction industry.
Apart from the obvious types of falls we expect in traditionally hazardous work areas – many of us forget the hazards associates with falling on slippery floors in an office building which can be equally as dangerous to the individual.
Regulation 8 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Construction Regulations, 2003; 8. Fall protection) provides the employer with clearly defined regulations and guidelines regarding fall protection and fall protection plans in the workplace.
Â
Fall protection forms an integral part of the health and safety on construction and building sites but must be considered in any scenario where employees are required to operate or work from an elevated position such as in cranes, scaffolding or elevated walkways of platforms. Fall protection further extends to the safety management of open holes, slippery work surfaces, ladders, stairs and ramps and Legislation further requires the employer to ensure that all employees, contractors or other persons are fully aware of the health and safety aspects of the fall protection plan.
Understanding of fall protection plans is of course dependant on the ability of the individual to interpret and understand the plans which is why Ambusave Academy has developed a workshop to assist with this.
Our workshop covers all of the essential information such as;
- Legislative requirements and regulations
- Fall categories
- Fall protection mechanisms
- Fall protection
- Fall arrest
- Fixed ladders and ladder safety
- Surface opening protection
- Fall protection plans.
